President Wesley Scully: Advocate for Equality and Community Empowerment

Wesley Scully, a dedicated and passionate leader, currently serves as the President of Branch 3061 of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). With an impressive 11-year tenure, Scully has proven himself as a tireless advocate for the rights and opportunities of Black and Brown communities.

Scully’s journey into activism was fueled by his deep love for people, especially those within the Black community. Inspired by the principles of equality and justice that America was founded upon, he took on the role of president to contribute to creating a society where every individual can enjoy equal rights and a fulfilling life.

Throughout his presidency, Scully has demonstrated unwavering passion as a leader, promoter, and advocate for righteous causes. He has tirelessly worked to improve opportunities for Black and Brown people within the community, debunking the illusion of inclusion that plagued the past.

Under Scully’s leadership, Branch 3061 has engaged with various colleges across Indiana, exposing students to Black colleges and fostering educational opportunities. Additionally, Scully has organized enjoyable events, such as skating outings and amusement park visits, to create a sense of community and joy among the members.

One of Scully’s significant accomplishments is the establishment of the Freedom Balls, successful events where community members can come together, dress up, and celebrate. These events have not only brought joy to the community but have also strengthened the bonds within it.

Scully’s commitment to social justice is further evident in the trailblazing programs initiated by the branch. These programs aim to open doors for Black individuals in the police and fire departments, forging important connections with community leaders, prosecutors, judges, and college professors.

The branch, under Scully’s leadership, actively participated in various impactful initiatives, including protests for justice, supporting events by notable figures like IBE, and Pat Harris the President, and organizing trips to Washington DC for educational and cultural experiences.

Scully emphasizes collaboration with other organizations, recognizing the strength that unity brings. Despite facing challenges, he remains determined to reach out to other groups, striving to expand the branch’s membership and create a more inclusive and supportive community.
